American, Southwest honored by Business Traveler magazine

Business Traveler magazine has handed out its "2009 Best in Business Travel Awards," and our two North Texas airlines fared well.

American Airlines was named "Best North American Airline for First-Class Service" and "Best Airline for North American Travel," while Southwest Airlines was picked as "Best Low-Cost Airline in North America."

Other winners by North American carriers included:

• Best Airport Clubs/Lounges: Delta Sky Clubs

• Best Frequent-Flyer Program: Delta SkyMiles

• Best Airline Web Site: Delta.com

• Best Domestic Airline: Virgin America

• Best Airline in Mexico: Aeromexico

• Best North American Airline for International Travel: Air Canada

• Best North American Airline for Business-Class Service: Air Canada

• Best In-Flight Services in North America: Air Canada

• Best Flight Attendants in North America: Air Canada

Here's what the magazine says about how it picked the winners:

"8,000 Business Traveler subscribers were randomly selected to participate in this year's survey, with a 64.4 percent response rate. Survey participants were asked to choose their favorite airlines, hotels, airports and other business-travel service providers in a total of 59 categories. The survey consisted of open-ended questions, with no suggested company names or choices given."
