Memorial ceremony to mark ninth anniversary of 9/11 attack

With the ninth anniversary almost upon us, organizers have announced two memorial events at the 9/11 Memorial in Grapevine to remember the crew members, passengers and others who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
There'll be a 7:30 a.m. Saturday "lowering of the flag" ceremony at the memorial, 1000 Texan Trail Road in Grapevine, with a 8 p.m. candlelight vigil the same day. The memorial is at the intersection of Texan Trail and Northwest Highway.
The events are being hosted by the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Foundation, the Allied Pilots Association and the Lake Grapevine Runners & Walkers Crew.
APA released this schedule for the 7:30 a.m. ceremony:
• APA president Dave Bates will deliver the keynote address.• Grapevine Fire Dept. Chief Steve Bass will do the flag-lowering.
• Steve Amerson will perform tribute song "Freedom Still Rings," the national anthem and "God Bless America."
• Grapevine Police Dept. Chaplain Lt. Barry Bowling will give the Invocation.
• Retired American Airlines pilot Doug Ebersole will play taps.
• Grapevine Police Chief Eddie Salame will do the flag-raising.
The ceremony is open to the public.
